Storm prep!

Published on October 29, 2012, by in Uncategorized.

So, I have this new house. On the plus side it has a water view! On the minus side, that means when something like “Frankenstorm” comes along we are pretty much screwed.

How screwed are we? Well- our neighbors have left us notes (below) to try to warn us and the fire department stop by today and told us that our house was on their select list of houses to warn about certain flood risk. But we aren’t taking this lying down, OH NO! My husband and I have spent today battening down our hatches, preparing for the… well we have no idea what we are preparing for other than a rough couple of days!

From our very friendly neighbor.

Step one of our storm prep was getting a generator. We at least had the foresight to secure one of these puppies several days ago. We have suffered through several periods without power recently (before we moved) so the generator was pretty high on our list of *needs*. We have laid out extension cords so that once the power is out hooking everything important up will be fairly easy. Here’s hoping it doesn’t stay out long.

our savior

Step two involved sandbagging our basement entry way and removing anything we care about at all down there. It will be interesting to see what this storm does to our house. We know there may be flood issues, but we are hoping for the best. It will be a learning experience, whatever happens!

Step three of storm prep was doing every piece of dirty laundry and dish in our house. That stuff will build up when the power is out, so may as well start off the event ahead of the game.

So those were our major prep steps- did I miss anything you guys make sure to do?
