Maybe time has altered my memories but I swear that in some grade school health class where changes to our soon to be adolescent bodies were discussed, acne was presented as something that came along with being a teenager. No one mentioned that acne can be for life. Through experience, I now know that acne can be for life as in my 30′s I suffer the worst skin I’ve ever had (I know, poor me). I kind of gave up for a while but now I’m actively working on it and this is a run down of what I think is currently working.
1.) Clarisonic brush
I use this every other day at night when I wash my face. I was using it more than that and I think it made me break out more. My current usage seems just right. I feel like it really helps with fine lines around my eyes. The clarisonic is pricey and I was lucky that a girlfriend was able to pick one up for me at a steep discount.
2. Philosophy Purity Made Simple
This is my favorite face wash. It is VERY gentle. I tend to have oily skin and my husband has super dry skin and we both love this face wash. Takes off face and eye makeup and leaves my face feeling so soft.
3. Moisturizer!!!
I moisturize morning and night and I bounce between Hope in a Jar and Cetaphil. The Hope in a Jar is very light and non-greasy, absorbs quickly and fairly odorless. The Cetaphil is heavier but absorbs well too. I also use the Cetaphil on my super sensitive legs after I shave.
This has been making a HUGE difference for me. I do it twice a week and I have seen such a huge improvement. My red spots are disappearing and I haven’t had any new eruptions.
5. Toner
I’m a little on the fence about this one. I have never used toner before but read about its function and thought it was worth trying. I’ve been using it at night when I don’t exfoliate. It does seem to even me out and keep my problematic chin dry but I need to use a lot of moisturizer with it.
What do you love to use? Any recommendations?

Chin acne is hormonal.
I had a bad bout of it and ran to the dermatologist wondering why, with all my conscientious skin care, I routinely looked like Britney Spears on a bad day. I hate the idea of taking drugs, but that helped get mine under control, and I also got some great topicals (covered by insurance, yay). Natural is always better, but sometimes these things are out of our control. Keep up the good fight!
I hear you on the chin acne but don’t you think nature should throw us a bone in our thirties… I can tell my boobs aren’t as perky (still have a nice rack but just sayin’), and I’m seeing fine lines around my eyes and I have a partially white hair… I feel like I we should get some clear skin in exchange.
