Fresh Start

Published on January 10, 2013, by in Food, Health, Life.

Have you ever done a cleanse? I haven’t but coming off of the holidays I can see the appeal. I came across this cleanse on Dr. Oz’s website and it sounds DELICIOUS which is not what I think of when it comes to detox. Truthfully, I don’t know anything about “cleanses” and “detoxing” but I

Guest Post: Navigating the Rosedale Diet

Published on October 12, 2012, by in Fitness, Food, Health.

I should start by introducing myself.  My name is Sean and Monica (of this blog) is my sister.  We’re probably as different from eachother as two people can be and still be related, though.  I’m a little older than her but I’m probably half as mentally mature as she is.  She seems to have it

For a Good Time, Call… Another Movie

Published on September 13, 2012, by in Food, Movies, Reviews.

As a member of the Maryland Film Festival, I sometimes get perks like free passes to sneak previews or special screenings. The other night I took advantage of this to see a sneak preview of the new comedy For a Good Time, Call. It was screening at the Charles Theater which was a plus for

Pepper water?

Published on September 11, 2012, by in Food.

This is a terrible picture of water infused with bell peppers and rosemary I took while at a conference I’m at this week. I’ve seen lemons and cucumbers… But never bell peppers. Have any of you? And it tasted like pepper water, in case you are wondering.

Fall is (almost) Here!

Published on August 27, 2012, by in Food, Life.

You may (or may not) have noticed my blogging absence these past couple weeks. The reason behind that was the my family was experiencing the sickness and eventually the loss of my wonderful grandfather. I thank our faithful readers for their patience with me, and my Gen*HER gals for their endless support and amazing friendship. But really, the loss

The Fresh 20

Published on August 24, 2012, by in Food, Life.

School is closed (again) for my sweet baby boy and I think I have ten minutes before he wakes up from his nap- enough time to do a quick post on the Fresh 20. Has anyone tried the Fresh 20? I just heard about it but I believe I’ve seen it come up on sites

Brussels N’ Bacon

Published on August 22, 2012, by in Food.

I’m horrified when people suggest deep frying veggies because I think that takes so much away from their flavor, but bacon and veggies… bring it on! Brussel sprouts, bacon, onion, olive oil. Toss with penne, squirt some lemon and call it dinner.

Cooking Ahead

Published on August 1, 2012, by in Food, Health, Life.

I’m a big fan of cooking ahead as my weekdays are full of work and my week nights are full of teaching dance classes. I’ve found myself to be kind of limited though as I always seem to fall back on soups and stews for my cook-ahead meals (chili being the most frequent). In my

Planning Power

Published on June 18, 2012, by in Food.

I’ve had pretty bad luck with food lately. Late last year, I visited a nutritionist to see what I should/shouldn’t be eating. She put me on a strict gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free diet, which was a complete shock to my little food world. Practically all I ate was dairy, gluten, and soy as a newly un-vegetarian

Lemon Ricotta Cookies

Published on June 13, 2012, by in Food.

I’m a phenomenal baker. I say that laughing to myself because on HGTV’s show “Design Star” last night the same guy who professed to being a “phenomenal muralist” got kicked off for designing a crappy mural… but I digress. I’m a competent baker. I love to bake, people eat my baked goods, and I’ve done
